Natasha Newell

Consultant and Advocate

I am an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey and a practising English barrister.

I have a wealth of litigation experience, having practiced out of one of London's leading sets of barristers' Chambers for over a decade. At the London Bar my practice ranged from public law, employment and health and safety matters to commercial and product liability disputes. I was regularly instructed in connection with High Court proceedings and both as sole and junior Counsel in the English appellate courts.

Since moving to Guernsey in 2014, I have regularly been involved in substantial litigation arising from trust disputes, financial services' business, serious fraud and regulatory matters. I also acted, at first instance and on appeal, in the Carlyle litigation - Guernsey's largest trial to date and the leading authority on directors' duties. My other high-profile matters include high value breach of trust claims, complex, long-running hostile beneficiary disputes arising from Public Trustee and Cooper applications, applications for Beddoes relief and various financial crime cases. I am currently instructed in an appeal to be heard by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.

My clients include a wide range of financial institutions and fiduciaries, as well as high net worth individuals. I have also acted for leading banks, insurers and fiduciaries in relation to regulatory investigations and enforcement action undertaken by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission.

I am STEP qualified, a member of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS) and the Chancery Bar Association. I am the Guernsey case summaries editor of the Jersey and Guernsey Law Review, Chair of the Guernsey Housing Appeals Tribunal and Vice-Chair of the Equality Working Group.
